The Memory Table

I have had this table sitting in my living for at least 5 years now!

(Don't you love my paint rug?)

We got it for FREE from my brother-in-law! It is a great table because both sides fold down, so the possiblities of where to put it are endless! And just check out these dainty little legs!

It was not in the best shape when we got it. Add to that 5 years and 3 kids and you get some pretty lively damage!

So for the past few weeks I have been going back and forth on what I wanted to do! I knew it HAD to be painted, but I just didn't know the details! When I read this post on Funky Junk Interiors this weekend, my mind started ticking!

She painted this table using words and symbols that meant something to her! I immediately started brainstorming about what I could use! Here is what I came up with:

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel is where Mr. Rustic and I stayed on our honeymoon! 1930 is the year that both my grandmother and grandfather were born. And a crown has come up repeatedly in my adult life, so it seemed fitting to use it here!

The top is painted in my favorite shade of white (which is not nearly as bright as these pictures show!) And the legs are basic black! The entire table has been distressed! The whole idea is for it to look like it was made out of an old sign. I don't know if I accomplished that, but I think it looks Great anyway!

What do you think?

Now the only question is,

"What to put on top of it?"
Thanks for stopping by!

On a side note, there were only a handful of people interested in the Swap Meet. So, for now I am going to wait. :( Maybe after the holidays we will explore the idea again!

I love this! Where did you get your crown graphin? Also, did you use a cricket for the letters...such inspiration!

What a huuuuge improvement! I love how the lettering is off-centered. Nicely done. As for on top... hmm, flowers are always a good bet, or in my world, fake flowers!

Wow, this is stunning! You did a wonderful job with my piece as your inspiration. I'm sooo proud. :)

I'll be adding your post link to my table post!

I just love your distressing.. it has a soft hue to it. Very cool!

As for what to put on top? Just go find trinkets that you think will look nice on it. Higher, lower, plant/flowers.. or... how about some rusty gears? Haha!

Leslie, PHENOMENAL job on making it look like an old sign. I'm sitting here kicking myself because I had a table like that for the playroom that I donated. Shoot! I would have loved to do what you did. what's your favorite shade of white, and did you use black acrylic paint or latex? I'm really glad you shared this at Project Diaries.

Hi..I just came over to take another look at your sign table. It is sooo cute. I am in the middle of doing one and, altho I am craftyLESS, I can't wait for it to dry and start stenciling...
You did an awesome job..when I get mine finished..IF it's photo-worthy, I'll let you know. :)))

The first round of stenciling had me foaming at the mouth and p'ing my pants...then..I FINALLY learned to use such a tiny bit of paint and they came out sooo good. I am letting it all dry for a couple days and then do my sanding.
I LOVE THESE MEMORY/SIGN TABLES because they are all different and no one will have one just like yours. :)))
