My House is Not Big Enough for All My Ideas

Lately, my projects are taking over my house! So, I have promised Mr. Rustic that I will concentrate on small projects until we figure out a better storage plan. Yesterday, I finished two of those smaller tasks.

The good thing about smaller projects is the instant gratification! The bad thing is...I LOVE THE BIG PIECES!!!! So, I will deal with my inner turmoil and the lack of storage space in my house and all of you out there in blog land can just enjoy the pictures and be thankful they are not taking over your house! It's Official and A Bit of Whimsy

It's official! Rustic Whimsy Designs is officially up and running! I made my first sale today! The coffee table that I posted about on Friday has been bought, paid for, and picked up! WOO HOO!!! So, what am I going to do with my earnings? Buy more furniture of course! I have had my eye on the cutest little side table at Goodwill!!!

As for other finished projects, I have to show you what I did this weekend!

It's a jewelry organizer made from an antique frame! And I think it turned out so stinkin' cute! The rest of you out there may think I have completely lost it, at least that's what Mr. Rustic said when I asked for his help to bend the spoons! I'm going to put it up for sale and see what happens! If nothing else, it will find a great home in my bathroom, because you know I have the jewelry to fill it up!

Oh So Cute!

I only have a minute! It is a busy day around here! Chance is 9! That means we are in party mode! But I wanted to show you the latest piece I've finished! It is, for lack of a better description, very Shabby Chic! It is a Solid Wood Coffee Table, painted a pale Grey/Green and distressed by hand! And only $75! Here is a picture!

What's in a Name

Rustic Whimsy! Why did I pick that name! I went back and forth between many different names and what it finally came down to was wanting a name that conveyed exactly what we are about, but was unique at the same time!

rus·tic (adj): plain and simple: lacking excessive refinement or elegance

AND

whim·sy (adj): endearing quaintness or oddity: the quality of being slightly odd or playfully humorous, especially in an endearing way

These two words perfectly describe the furniture I paint! It is usually plain and simple, a little rough around the edges. And I like to use pieces with odd, curvy lines or paint with bright, unexpected colors!

So, there is your glimpse into the way my mind works and what kind of projects you can expect me to conquer!

Adventure Time

Welcome to my new adventure! I guess I should start at the beginning! Ten years ago when I married my one and only we bought our first house for less than what you would pay for a luxury car today. It was Old, to say the least. Built in the 1880's and hauled to its current location in Canton by a team of oxen. It was a great house, but needed lots of work. Our families thought we were crazy and looking back on it we probably were.
My husband, let's call him "Mr. Rustic", is handy. What he doesn't know how to do, he can learn pretty quickly. Team him up with his brothers and they are virtually unstoppable. Me, on the other hand, had never even lifted a paint brush. (That's a story for another day!) But once I got the hang of it, I didn't stop! Fast Forward three years. With a two year old son and another on the way, our fixer upper was becoming a burden. So, we did what any young couple would do, we moved into a vanilla house at the end of a cul-de-sac.
For almost 7 years now I have done all I can to spice up our home. I have painted every wall at least once (even the closets) some twice, even three times. You could call it an addiction, but I LOVE paint! It is the fastest and cheapest way to redecorate a room. It didn't take long before I started painting furniture. And when I ran out of things to paint at home, I helped friends paint or my mom and I would redo some of her furniture! She is the one that gave me my motto: "It's only paint!" If you don't like it you can always take it off or paint over it!
And that's just what I'm doing! Repainting and renewing pieces of furniture that have long been forgotten by their owners. My daughter started Pre-school this year which gives me a little free time! So, at the gentle nudging of Mr. Rustic, I have decided to take my passion and make a business of it! As of right now I am painting like crazy! I have some pieces finished, some in the works, and some that are patiently waiting their turn! I have so many ideas floating around my head that my hands just can't keep up!
